Elijah Wood is set to star inGrand Piano, an indie thriller written by Damien Chazelleand to be directed by Eugenio Mira.
Adrian Guerra and Rodrigo Cortes, who were involved in making the Ryan Reynoldsthriller Buried, are producing.
The story concerns a once-great concert pianist who suffers from stage fright and comes back to perform after a five-year hiatus. Just when he’s about to play the first bar, he notices somebody has written a threatening note on his music sheet. He’s now forced to play his best concert ever to save his life as well as his wife’s. Think Speed at a piano.
The movie will shoot at Ciudad de la Luz Studios in Alicante, Spain, and a week in Chicago. A late summer production start is being eyed.
Piano adds to Wood’s already busy and varied schedule. The actor is the lead voice on Disney XD’s animated series Tron: Uprising and returns to star in season 2 of FX’s Wilfred, which debuts June 28. His movie Maniac will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival this month, and he will be seen reprising Frodo in December’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.
Wood is repped by WME, Brillstein Entertainment and Stone Meyer.

First of all the complete season 1 of Wilfred is coming to Blu-Ray in June.
FX’s freshman comedy featured an offbeat and nastily colorful dude in a dog suit that everyone but Ryan (Elijah Wood) sees as a regular old mongrel. If you didn’t catch Wilfred‘s original run, complete with suicidal plotlines and its ability to push comedy (and drug) limits, you won’t have much longer to wait. Wilfred — The Complete First Season is headed on to Blu-Ray and DVD on June 19th, just a little over a week before Season 2 premieres on FX.
Special features for both the Blu-Ray and DVD copies are the same and look fairly interesting. The first extras are deleted scenes, followed by two featurettes: “Wilfred & Bear: A Love Affair” and “Mary Jane Mash-Up.” Rounding out the special features will be a Fox Movie Channel segment called “Life After Film School: Jason Gann.” Gann initially played Wilfred in the original Australian series, and now reprises the role as the oft-loveable and oft-twisted dog on FX’s version. It should be interesting to hear what the actor has to say about the roles.
Wilfred is a strange buddy comedy and it certainly isn’t for everyone, but if it does seem to be for you, please catch up before Season 2 of Wilfred premieres June 28, 2012 on FX. The show may not be what you think it is going to be heading in, but I doubt you will regret it.

Anna Paquin (True Blood) and Tom Hiddleston (Thor) have joined Elijah Wood (The Lord of the Rings) in a gritty noir thriller. A recent pick up by Cargo Entertainment, Black Wings Has My Angel is a story about an armored car heist by an escaped prisoner and a female escort. The script, written by Barry Gifford (Wild at Heart), Christopher Peditto (Light and the Sufferer) and Alfonso Pineda Ulloa (Restos) is an adaptation of the 1953 Elliott Chaze novel. The long-gestating project is due to start shooting this September.
Screendaily reported on the pick up of Black Wings Has My Angel by Cargo and the addition of Paquin and Hiddleston. While specific roles have yet to be assigned, the story follows anti-hero and ex-con Tim Sunblade who picks up a high class call girl to help him in an armored car robbery.
Out on the press circuit for the upcoming thriller Safe House, starring Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds, actress Nora Arnezeder spoke to Shock Till You Drop about her turn in Maniac.
| You’ve taken the role of Anna in the Maniac remake. Have you seen the original?
Nora Arnezeder: You know what, I’m gonna watch it. I didn’t want to watch it before I did this because the movie we shot with Elijah Wood is going to be a very different direction. I didn’t want to be stuck in the first version, you know what I mean? It’s going to be so different, shot in POV. Elijah Wood is something that is half-angel/half-devil, so you don’t expect him as a killer/maniac, but I’m telling you, he’s the man! He’s the man for that movie, it’s going to be fantastic. Also, I love Alexandre Aja [the screenwriter] and horror movies when they’re well made. Aja did all my favorite horror movies. Also, Franck Khalfoun is the director, very talented, very modern rock ‘n roll guy. It was so cool. We shot it in downtown LA, and it’s kind of a psychological movie with a maniac. You’re inside the maniac, and it’s very interesting. I watched the original recently, and the main character as played by Joe Spinell was unbelievably scuzzy yet winds up going out with Anna (Caroline Munro), this drop-dead gorgeous woman. It was almost absurd how she would be at all interested in this freak. Is the relationship your character has with Elijah a little more plausible? Arnezeder: They’re friends in the beginning, and he’s very intrigued by her work. She’s an artist, and that’s all I can say right now because [laughs] maybe the producers will say, “Ahh! You don’t have to say anything about the movie!” All I can say is it’s the horror movie genre but with many psychological sides. That’s what interested me in that project, because if you have a movie with only blood and screams it’s not interesting, I don’t like that. |
Here is a short film which Elijah Wood took part in. The Death and Return of Superman - A somewhat-mostly-accurate educational parody film by Max Landis, Produced by Bryan Basham @bryan_basham. Starring Elden Henson, Elijah Wood, Mandy Moore, Morgan Krantz and many more.
